NEET PG: ALL India Rank & State Rank demystified

There are many students who after seeing their NEET PG results are confused about their ranks in NEET PG.

So we are trying to simplify the concept here for the people to understand better.

Lets see..... First of all NEET is a eligibility test for the admission to PG courses. NEET PG provided 3 ranks to many students and 2 ranks to some. These are
  1. All India rank
  2. State 1 Rank
  3. State 2 Rank

Now lets take some examples.

  • Dr M, who is domicile of Rajasthan, and did his Graduation from Karnataka.
He will be provided with AIR, State1 Rank - Rajasthan, and State 2 Rank - Karnataka. But according to rules in Rajasthan, only State MBBS candidates are eligible so Dr. M will be eligible for the counselling of 50% AI Quota and Karnataka State Quota counselling. He will not be listed in the final list prepared for Rajasthan state quota counselling.

  • Dr N, who is a domicile of Karnataka and did MBBS from Rajasthan
He will be provided with AIR, State1 Rank - Karnataka, and State 2 Rank - Rajasthan. According to rules in Rajasthan, only State MBBS candidates are eligible so Dr. N will be eligible for Rajasthan state quota counselling. In Karnataka, both state MBBS and domicile candidates are eligible so Dr N is also eligible for the counselling of Karnataka state quota.

  • Dr T, who is a domicile of Haryana and did his MBBS from Haryana
He will be given only 2 ranks. AIR and state 1 rank. He will be eligible for both counselings.

Now few points to note:

  1. The AIR is the final rank. (If AP and JnK will not be included then it may change as these students will be excluded)
  2. State ranks are just indicative and does not confirm your eligibility for that seat.
  3. Final state rank list will be prepared by respective states according to their own eligibility criteria. So state rank is liable to change.
  4. About conselling, there is no info available till now whether there will be combined counseling for All India and States or separate counsellings. As far as we predict, state counselling will be separate due to differnce in rules of eligibility and reservation criteria in different states.
  5. For those states which have conducted separate entrance test, the state rank for those states shown in Rank letter is void and will not be effective, for example TN, Karnataka etc.
