New Course: DNB Emergency Medicine

The National Board of Examinations has approved DNB – Emergency Medicine as a 3 years’ post graduate programme which will add to the existing DNB Primary and Secondary courses already running by Natboard. NBE has invites applications from hospitals/ medical institutions fulfilling the minimum criteria. The eligibility of Primary DNB-EM will be MBBS recognised by MCI and for Secondary DCH, DOrtho, DA, DGO and Dip. In EM.

This is a good move by NBE. Emergency Medicine aka Accident and Emergency is one of the demanding field of modern hospital which still lacks properly trained doctors. ER is considered as the backbone service of the hospital, both revenue wise and medical care wise which needs trained medical staff. Properly trained ER Physicians is important to improve mortality rate due to delay in proper emergency medical attention at the ER level. Unlike US, in India ERs are still managed largely by Junior Residents with the backup of Anaesthesia on call and Medicine on call. There are only few non MCI recognised post graduate programs present in India at the moment. 

We also heard that there are plans of starting MD in Emergency Medicine at many more Medical Colleges and Teaching Hospitals in every state in India, but we cant say how much time it will take for implementation.

AIPGMEE 2014 for Admission to MD/MS/Post Graduate Diploma Courses Admission Session 2014


• AIPGMEE is the eligibility-cum-ranking examination prescribed as the single entrance examinations for admission to All India 50% quota of MD/MS/Diploma Seats – 2014 Admission Session (except Jammu & Kashmir and Andhra Pradesh).

• The State Government of JHARKHAND vide its letter dated 19.11.2013 has indicated that it shall utilize the results of AIPGMEE 2014 for admission to 50% State Quota MD/MS/PG Diploma courses in colleges under its control. The State Government of JHARKHAND shall not be conducting any separate entrance examination of their own for admission to Post Graduate Courses under its control.

The entrance test is being conducted for merit determination for use by COMEDK Member Institutions only. The COMEDK entrance test is for candidates seeking admissions for the Post-Graduate courses in these Institutions. The COMEDK PGET-2014 test scores are valid only for admissions during the academic year 2014-2015.
There will be a separate entrance test for Post Graduate Medical and Dental Courses.
